At St. Andrew’s we follow the National Curriculum for Maths. This places strong emphasis on quick re-call and efficient strategies for solving number problems.
In EYFS and KS1 lessons have a strong practical element. We believe that Maths should have a ‘real life context’ and look to develop this where possible.
We have produced a detailed calculation policy which we encourage parents to read. This policy outlines the methods and strategies we use to teach various mathematical skills and knowledge. At St. Andrew’s our Maths curriculum covers the key areas of number, geometry, measure, data with an emphasis on using and applying (problem solving) throughout all strands:
Number
-
Understanding of number and place value
-
Addition and Subtraction
-
Multiplication and Division
-
Fractions
-
Decimals, percentages, are introduced in Key Stage 2
-
Ratio and proportion and algebra is introduced in Upper Key Stage 2
Geometry and Measures

Y4 Children fluent up to 12 x 12
Homework
Year 1 - Year 6 pupils are given homework linked to their learning in class. Every child has a login to the secure website My Maths and is expected to completed homework tasks set via My Maths or Microsoft Teams.
