With God's love, we live, learn and grow together

A message from Mrs Statham - Head of School

We have been very blessed with sunny days almost every day since the start of term, which has enabled the children to continue to use the field.
We are really hoping this will continue all the way to half term!

There is a lot to celebrate in this week's newsletter, including a gold standard award for our Travel Plan, a bronze award for our music provision and joint second out of 58 Enfield primary schools for the highest attendance since the start of term. A big thanks to the staff at St. Andrew's for working together to bring about these achievements.

Thank you for coming along to the Book Fair after school this week.
The school receives money for every book sold, which goes back into buying quality literature for our bookshelves.
The Book Fair will be on again next Monday and Tuesday after school.

If parents can do one thing to help their child....

Read, read, read!

Reading to your child every day has ENORMOUS benefits.
Imagine how many hundred of thousands of words and phrases your child will hear if she/he is read to every day! Children who are read to regularly have better concentration, develop confidence with language and build empathy and imagination. They also perform better in assessments and exams in future years.

Please help your child to succeed at school by reading every day.

Practising the basics for a happy lunchtime.

We are seeing many young children in Reception and Year 1 who are still unable to use a knife and fork correctly. This life skill should be practised at home, so that children are able to cut up their own food. Just like reading, practice makes perfect! So please, make time to support your child with the correct grip for a fork and knife and encourage them to cut up different foods themselves. It will make for a happier lunchtime for staff, too!

Attendance at St. Andrew's School

Excellent attendance again for the majority of pupils across the year groups. Well done all classes who have achieved 96% and above!

What has been happening at this week?

We are delighted to report that St. Andrew's has gained GOLD Accreditation for our TFL Travel for Life Programme. The award recognises the school's commitment to promoting safe, active and sustainable travel to school.
Well done to the whole school community and especially to Mrs Anderson for her hard work with our Travel Ambassadors: Alyssia, Tyler, Robin and Yashvi.

Year 6 enjoy a fantastic week at Grittleton House in Wiltshire

A lifetime of memories were made last week, as our Year 6 children spent four days at the magnificent Grittleton House in Wiltshire. From the start to the end of the trip, this cohort of children really embraced life away from home.
They enjoyed all the activities, but some stand out favourites were the Escape Room, Water Wars, Jacob's Ladder and Body Zorbing.

A huge thank you to Ms Lawal, Mrs Hill, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Statham, Mrs Dilieto and Miss Mann for giving up their time to allow this trip to take place.

Year group buddies meet for the first time!

Our buddy system at St. Andrew's forms a very important part of developing positive interactions and confidence with children of different ages.
This week, our Year 5 children met their Year 1 buddies on the field,
to help them with their geography lesson.

The Y1 children had to conduct a survey to find out what they liked and disliked about the playground and the older children were on hand to help with collecting the data. It was a lovely way to see both sets of children learning so much from each other.

Making bread in Reception

This week, our Reception children made bread rolls! They have been learning about Autumn and Harvest and have been listening to the story The Little Red Hen. The best part was eating their baking!

Two visits to St. Andrew's Church

This week, the Year 2 children visited St. Andrew's Church, where they were welcomed by Fr. Steve. He spoke to them about baptism and also told them the history of the Church. At the end of the session, he took them through the steps of a baptism, which the children found so interesting.

5W also accompanied their 1W buddies to church
to explore the many interesting statues, monuments and paintings.

Year 4 PE, Art lessons and a talk from Reverend Ruth

Year 4 have had a very busy week!  They have been enjoying dance lessons, led by the Enfield PE Team. Using 'Hairspray' as inspiration, they worked together to create their own dance routines. The children have also created art collages,as they learn about composition, focus points and layering.

Reverend Ruth met with both classes to talk about what it means for a believer to follow God's call. She also  talked about the meaning of the word 'vocation'
and how it differs from simply having a job. It was fascinating for the children to hear how Ruth became a Reverend.

Whole School Well-being Walk

Yesterday, the whole school went off site to take part in our termly well-being walk from Churchbury Lane, Parsonage Lane, Baker Street and back to the school gates. Every child buddied up with a partner and off we went! The older children encouraged the younger ones to talk about their favourite colours, hobbies and families and soon, there were lots of conversations, laughter and engagement. Thanks to Mrs Hill for organising the event!
