A message from Mrs Statham - Head of School

This week has been what I like to call a 'topsy-turvy' week! A bank holiday and a polling day resulted in quite a disjointed week for us all. Our pop-up swimming pool was not ready for the Y5 pupils to use this week, however, we are hopeful that the temperature will be ready for Monday.

Even though it was a three day week, year groups still managed to pack a lot of learning into each day. Our Y4 pupils went to The Tower of London, Y6 have calmly been preparing for their national tests next week and today, the whole school joined together to celebrate a most treasured man, Sir David Attenborough. Turning 100 years old, Sir David thoroughly deserves to be celebrated, bringing us 100 years of wonder, wisdom and wildlife. Thank you to the School Council for leading a special assembly. Parents, please ask your children about their blue and green day, today. It really was a day to remember.

PTA D-I-S-C-O success!

Last Friday, the PTA decorated the hall, prepared the drinks and snacks and brought glow sticks, ready for the four discos. There was great excitement and almost every child in the school attended. This meant that thanks to our school community, the PTA was able to raise over £1000! Thanks to all our parents who contributed, to the staff for supporting the discos and to our wonderful PTA for their time, effort and support for the school.

Ms Shounan Lai leaves St. Andrew's School

It is with great sadness that Ms Lai, our School Business Manager, leaves us today. Shounan has worked at the school for 3 years and in that time has worked tirelessly to support the school with an ever-decreasing budget. With huge constraints and constant issues involving school repairs and maintenance, as well as falling pupil numbers, there has never been a more challenging time for school business managers. Shounan will be returning to China with her family and we wish her all the very best for a new chapter.

Year 4 girls attend an Arsenal game

Two weeks ago, Mrs Statham and Miss Mann took six Y4 girls to watch a WSL game at the Emirates Stadium. It was an evening kick off between Arsenal and Leicester. Some of the girls had never been to a football match before, or a stadium, so this was a very exciting event.

Mrs Statham was hoping that Arsenal would score a goal for the girls. Little did they expect a 7-0 result for Arsenal! A great night for the girls and the Arsenal women's team!

Year 3 design and make a castle

After a lot of hard work in applying new skills, the Y3 pupils finally showed off the castles they made in DT. They had to follow a specific brief; to design and make a castle for a Y2 pupil. Many key skills were learnt and developed, such as cutting, folding, scoring card and making stable bases. The visit by Y2 children was part of their evaluation. Well done, Year 3s!

Year 4 trip to The Tower of London

This week, our Y4 classes visited the Tower of London, as part of their history unit. They explored dungeons and turrets, learning about how the Tower was once used as a prison. The highlights of the trip were seeing The Crown Jewels, meeting a Beefeater and climbing to the top of the White Tower. What a wonderful day out! Many thanks to the staff and parents who supported on the trip.

Happy 100th Birthday to Sir David Attenborough!

Painting outside, cloud gazing, classifying animals, drawing insects, making dream catchers from sticks, bird-watching and leaf rubbing – our love of nature and the outdoors really shone through today. We have fantastic grounds and all our teachers made full use of them. Y5 children even made birthday cards for Sir David. A beautiful day to end the week.
