Our first World Book Night!

This week, we hosted our first World Book Night for adults only at the school. Parents were invited to come along after for an hour to enjoy some peace and quiet, with a book. Organised by Mrs Statham, Mrs Meekin and Miss Mann also arrived with a book in hand to join the parents for an hour of reading and book talk. We also offered 'Quick Read' books to buy for £2, as well as some books to take or swap. Thank you to the small but wonderful group of parents who came along. We hope more parents will join us for the next one in June.
Please look out for the flyer.

PTA Glow in the Dark Disco
Friday 1st May

Please remember to book your tickets for the discos using the QR code or email on the poster. The office does not deal with the bookings or payments.
Please remember that Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children may come to school in their 'disco' clothes on that day. It's going to be a lot of fun!

Oldest and youngest pupils go on a spring walk

Last week, our Year 6 children teamed up with Reception children on a lovely spring walk along the New River. We are so fortunate to have great access to lovely walks near our school and we take full advantage of this.

Our Year 6 pupils were amazing role models and walk partners, ensuring everyone was safe and happy.

In RW, the children have been busy making a wormery, as part of the learning about Minibeasts. They looked all over the garden to find a worm!

Year 6 try out new WW2 workshop

This week, our Year 6 pupils took part in an immersive workshop called Secret Listeners. Organised by Trent Park House and Freshwater Theatre Company, Secret Listeners explores the hidden life of a German Jewish refugee who worked as a secret listener at Trent Park House during World War 2. The children were totally engaged in the workshop and took part in 'training' exercises, read secret files and learnt drama techniques to support their understanding of how intelligence was passed on.

In addition, the Year 6 parents kindly donated funds so that we could hire some World War 2 artefacts from the Museum of Enfield. The box included a gas mask, powdered milk, blackout blinds and photos from the war. The children even found places they recognised around Enfield!

A busy time in Year 5

This week was the penultimate session for some of our Year 5 boys, who have been attending reading sessions at Enfield Grammar.
Working with Y10 mentors for the past year on the book 'Seven Ghosts'
they completed acrostic poems and re-designed the front cover.

Year 5 pupils have also started their STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering and Maths) lessons this week, as part of their STEM Fair build up in July. The pupils learnt about types of AI and designed a new AI program. Amazing work going on!

Sporting events at St. Andrew's

Our Hi 5 Netball Team took part in a tournament this week.
We lost 3 games and won 2. All players played well and enjoyed the experience. The glorious weather was a bonus, too.

Our Year 5/6 children also took part in a Rugby competition last week at Raglan School. The team only had a couple of opportunities to play together beforehand but really played well as a team. They came 4th overall.
Many thanks to Mrs Dilieto and Coach Kymani for supporting the team.

Year 3 recorder performance

Today, Y3 parents, grandparents and friends were treated to a wonderful recorder concert. The children have been having lessons since January and were more than ready to perform a selection of songs together as a whole cohort. The parents were impressed by the quality of the music as well as the way the children were able to conduct themselves during a performance. A wonderful way to end the week. Miss Jones and Mrs Statham are super proud of them all!
