A half-term message from Mrs Statham

Once again, St. Andrew's staff and pupils have been busy this term. We have had a record number of trips, visitors and workshops – over 20 in only 6 weeks! These have included three trips into London, visits to Enfield Library, Mental Health and Well-Being workshops, Little City workshops, visits from Fr. Steve, a Space exhibition, church and synagogue visits, story sessions, Songsack lessons and a special trip to St. Paul's Cathedral.

These additional enrichment opportunities benefit all pupils in different ways and are organised and supported by our committed staff. A huge thank you to all the parents who have volunteered their time to support on a trip. It is quite an experience leading 60 children safely through the underground and into a museum - and back again!

We also welcomed several governors to the school, to look at SEND and Health and Safety procedures, as well as learning walks for PSHE and Mental Health and Well-Being.

After half term, we look forward to World Book Day, singing and recorder concerts, ducklings and chicks arriving and our Easter service at St. Andrew's Church. Have a lovely half term. See you all back on 23rd February.

Best wishes,

 Mrs Statham

HOUSE POINT WINNERS FOR SPRING TERM 1

Well done to HAWKING House. Children in Hawking may wear their house colours to school on Friday 27th February.

Children's Mental Health Week

This week the whole school participated in Children’s Mental Health Week,  exploring the theme of ’This is My Place’ by talking about how we can help everyone to feel like they belong.

Every child took part in a mindful art project, finding ways to represent happy moments where they feel connected, valued and accepted. There have also been themed discussions within Collective Worship, buddy class work, mindfulness sessions, circle times and opportunities to get some head space and fresh air by going to or short run or walk. We even had buddy walks outside of school - 120 buddies all walking happily down Churchbury Lane!

Please see the poster below for more information on how best to support your child with their mental health and well-being. A big thanks to Mrs Cahalan and Miss Jones for organising the week.

What's been happening at school?

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic day at the Natural History Museum in London. The children were excited to be going on the tube and this excitement continued up the great escalator into the Earth's Core! They enjoyed exploring crystals, rocks and fossils and even found diamonds! A long train ride back to school but with great memories. A huge thank you to the staff for organising the trip and to all the parents who helped. It was greatly appreciated.

Year 5 pupils present a fabulous showcase at their Space Exhibition

To conclude their work on The Solar System, our Year 5 pupils took part in our yearly Space Exhibition. The task was to create a model of The Solar system at home, using everyday objects. This year, the standard was truly exceptional and the Year 5 parents were clearly impressed and proud of the pupils' achievements.

Year 5 children have been so busy this half term. They participated in the Y5 virtual workshop led by the Horniman Museum, to support their learning about the Benin Bronzes. They also took part in a Disability Workshop, run by the PINS project and a group of Year 5 readers attended their second session with their Year 10 reading mentors at Enfield Grammar.

Paisleigh-Jade cut her hair in aid of the Little Princess Trust. Her hair will be made into a wig for children and young people with cancer. Well done, Paisley-Jade.

Reception children learn about Chinese New Year

This week, our Reception children learnt about some of the celebrations which take place during Chinese New Year. Many of our families will take part in celebrations during this period and this year, it is the year of the horse. The children listened to the story about the Jade Emperor and the race, made lanterns and fans and wrote their own wishes for the Wishing Tree.  Reception children also visited Enfield Town Library this week. What a busy time!

Worship Committee attend St. Paul's Cathedral service

Yesterday, our Year 5 Worship Committee ventured to St. Paul's Cathedral. The children represented St. Andrew's School as part of the London Diocesan Schools' annual service. It was a wonderful experience to be present in such an awe-inspiring building. We particularly enjoyed the acoustics during congregational responses and the joyous music played by the steel pan band.

This has become a well-established event for our school and we look forward to going again next year! Many thanks to Miss Jones and Mrs Kirby for organising the trip.

Manga Books to be kept at home

A message from the English Team and Year 6 teachers - some Manga books and graphic novels, such as Blue Lock and One Piece are suitable reads for pupils of 13+ years. Many contain fantasy violence, with language and themes suitable for teenagers. For this reason, we ask parents to ensure these books are kept at home and are not brought into school as a reading book. Thank you for your support.
