A busy half term ahead

We welcome back staff and pupils after the extended half-term break and there is a lot going on!

Our School Video is now on the website. Click here to view and share it with your children.

Parent meetings - face to face meetings with the class teacher. These will take place next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for pupils in YR - Y5. Please check your email to book online. Due to our teachers' workload, meetings will only be held on the allocated days. Only Y5 and 6 pupils are expected to attend the meetings.

Curriculum Letters - these were emailed out to parents this week. They give parents an overview of curriculum content, any trips or events coming up, as well as reminders about homework and Teams/Tapestry information.

Workshops and coffee mornings for parents -  please look out for posters on the newsletter with information relating to SEND, from Our Voice and PINS (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools)

Trips and workshops for pupils - please check the calendar on the website for trips and events. This is updated regularly.

PTA events - the PTA uses its own website, a Facebook and Instagram page and WhatsApp to send regular updates and information about events such as the discos and the Christmas Fayre. Please do look at these pages.

Communication to parents

There are times when the school sends out a lot of emails and we appreciate that this can feel like overload. Senior leaders are working with our wonderful office staff to streamline the number of emails sent out each week. One of the ways we will be reducing this volume is by only sending an email once. Another way is by adding flyers and posters to the newsletter.

Please get in touch with your Class Rep, who will be happy to update parents on  general information such as Non-Uniform Days, trips, discos, packed lunches and when it is a themed day. If you do not know who your child's Class Rep is, please contact the office.

School Council launch 'Cut your Carbon' Challenge
this November

This November, our School Council led an assembly to launch their challenge to the school community. This consists of completing six small carbon-cutting activities at home with family and friends. These actions will help to reduce everyday carbon emissions and benefit the planet. Please log in to your child's Teams for more details and check out the challenge details below.

Michael Rosen Poetry Day

This week we celebrated the wonderful children's author Michael Rosen with a day filled with poetry and laughter. Taking hints from the master himself, all the children learnt to recite a poem 'off by heart'.

In Reception, they performed 'We're going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen and even showed their Year 4 buddies how to do the actions!

In Years 1 and 2, they performed 'Cats Sleep Anywhere' by Eleanor Farjeon. Again, every child spoke with enthusiasm as they performed to a packed hall.

The children in Years 3 and 4 performed 'The Sound Collector' by Roger McGough. The poem tells the surreal story of a stranger who collects everyday sounds. Well done to the children for using great expression in the poem.

And finally, our Year 5 and 6 pupils performed the nonsense poem 'Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll. The children have realised that, through learning the poem, nonsense words can still make sense!

We finished the day watching Michael Rosen perform his own wonderful poem 'Chocolate Cake' which had the children laughing and giggling for some time! Click here to watch this wonderful example of performance poetry.

Charlie and Archie represent Enfield in the London Youth Games

Congratulations to Charlie in Year 5 and Archie in Year 6, who represented the whole of Enfield in Cross Country Running at the London Youth Games last Sunday. Both boys ran great races, with Charlie coming first to the finish line for Enfield and Archie coming fourth. We are so proud of both of them, for their success outside of school.

PTA Success

We are very grateful to Selin and her team of parent volunteers, for giving up their time to support the school, so that every child benefits. So far this term they have brought us the Smarties challenge, Bingo Night, the Fireworks Night and the School Neon Discos.

St. Andrew's Christmas Fair on Friday 5th December 3pm

In order for any school event to be successful, we need AN ARMY! Yes, an army of volunteers to help run stalls, serve food, sell drinks, organise the raffle and put it all together on the day! With only 4 weeks to go, the PTA really needs your help if the fair is to go ahead.

We would really like more helpers from parents throughout the year groups, so that the PTA can continue to grow in years to come. Contact the PTA at pta@standrewspta.co.uk to find out how to book tickets for events or to lend a hand.

Road Safety Competition

Over the past few weeks, lots of children have been busy making posters for our Road Safety Competition. There were just under 80 entries, all of which gave strong messages of road safety awareness.

We know that roads are busy in Enfield and finding safe places to cross is one of many important parts of our children's understanding of road safety. Every child who entered the competition has been awarded 5 house points each. The entries on the display board in the corridor will each receive 10 house points.

Well done to everyone who entered. The competition leads nicely into Road Safety Week from 16th November.

Remembrance Day - 11th November

This week, teachers took the time to teach the children about Armistice Day, later known as Remembrance Day. A special worship took place as the children learned about the armed forces, the First and Second World Wars and the significance of the poppies. The day also gave year group buddies the opportunity to get together, to create some lovely artwork together. A big thank you to the House and Vice Captains, who volunteered to come in early every day to sell poppies for the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Enfield Boys' Football Tournament

This week, our older boys took part in the Enfield Schools Football Tournament at Edmonton County School. The boys played four matches plus a friendly match. They started really well, winning their first game 3-0. The next three games were pretty tough and unfortunately we did not reach the semi-finals. The boys enjoyed playing a friendly at the end with Grange Park and were disappointed but pleased to have taken part. Thank you to Mr Cook for organising the event and for his support during the games.
