Year 5 Artwork goes on display

Last term, when our Year 5 pupils were in Year 4, they worked with Rachel, a mosaic artist, to make a huge mosaic butterfly. This piece of artwork has now been installed in a 'secret garden' in Enfield Town. The garden, which is within the Palace Gardens shopping centre, has been built for the shop workers of Enfield Town to relax in. Two weeks ago, we were asked to take along 20  children for the official opening of the garden.

The children were thrilled to see their work on display and were very surprised to learn that St. Andrew's School used to be situated where the garden is now!

Not only were the children pleased to see the mosaic, they were then invited into the Palace Gardens CCTV control room, to look at how the shopping areas and carparks are monitored. This was a real highlight for the children, who had never seen so many camera screens! They also learned a lot about the roles that people do to help keep us all safe in public spaces.

HALF TERM HOLIDAY
FROM WEDNESDAY 22ND - FRIDAY 31ST OCTOBER

SCHOOL STARTS BACK ON MONDAY 3RD NOVEMBER

Worship Committee and School Council

As well as our House and Vice Captains, we also have a Worship Committee and a School Council. These elected pupils take on extra responsilbiity around the school. The Worship Committee meets with Mrs Kirby to make decisions about our music and prayers for Collective Worship. They also lead Collective Worship.

Our School Council represent the voice for all pupils in Years 2 to 6 and meet regularly with Ms Chick and Ms Lawal, to discuss issues and to make improvements to the school. They also make decisions about to help and support the  wider community.

What else has been happening at school?

Autumn is definitely here and we can see this in our school grounds. The leaves are turning red, orange and brown and the younger childen have been collecting acorns and conkers to study. We will also be planting bulbs in pots, ready for the spring.

In Reception, our children have been learning about Harvest, identifying fruit and vegetables and even tasting them!

4B led a wonderful Harvest Service at St. Andrew's Church last week. They spoke with confidence and clarity on the message of food for all, and being grateful and thankful that we have enough food to eat.

At the end of the service, Mrs Statham gave a thank you speech to Councillor Mike Rye, who has stepped down as a governor at St. Andrew's School. Mike has been a pro-active governor for over 40 years. We thank him for his commitment to the hundreds of pupils who have passed through the school and the many, many staff, too. We thank Mike and all our current and previous governors,  for offering strategic guidance, as well as supporting our school commnuity.

Sporting achievements at St. Andrew's School

Football

Our boys' football team have worked hard in their games over the past couple of weeks. Held at Enfield Grammar, the boys have shown excellent commitment in all of the games. It is always a wonderful feeling to win a match, which we did last week. However, we also saw great sportsmanship and resilience in some of our pupils when they lost a game. Overall, St. Andrew's came third in the tournament. We are so proud of them all and thank Mr Cook for organising the games.

Cross Country event

We also took 10 children from Y5 and Y6 to compete in the Enfield Cross Country Competition event on Friday. All runners ran their hardest and fastest along with other children from 30 Enfield schools. We were thrilled to see that Charlie in Year 5 came 2nd overall out of 145 runners and Archie in Year 6 came 13th.  Overall, the boys came 4th out of 30 and the girls 13th. Well done to all of our runners!  Thanks to Mrs Dilieto and Mrs Janes for supporting all the children on the day and to parents for their support at the event.

Year 5 pupils complete their MYME mental health and wellbeing programme

This term, our Year 5 pupils took part in weekly sessions run my My Young Mind Enfield (MYME). This programme supports schools in delivering mental health sessions, raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing and giving the children tools and ideas to promote positive mental health. All of the chidlren gained a certificate for their participation in the Brain Buddies project. We will definitely be using these strategies, going forward.
