Official Opening of the Quiet Garden

Today, we held an official opening of our Quiet Garden.
The garden has been transformed over the months, with the help of
parents and staff into a beautiful calm space.

The garden has been planted with elegant grasses, striking shrubs and some comfortable seating, perfect for a child and a buddy or a child and an adult to sit, to have some space to reflect, to chat, or just to have a quiet moment.

We would like to thank the PTA for the funding towards this garden, to the parent and family volunteers for giving up their Saturdays and to Mrs Statham and Miss Mann, for their many weekends spent gardening and jet washing.
A true community effort. Here is the prayer, written and led by Miss Jones,
to conclude our official opening.

Information to parents about our Maintenance Fund

When every child starts at St. Andrew's School, parents are informed about our maintenance fund payment. The school asks every family to give a voluntary contribution of £35 per year for the upkeep of our buildings and grounds.

The school DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY FUNDS FROM THE LOCAL AUTHORITY for the upkeep and maintenance of ageing buildings, so your payments are really important. Projects in the pipeline including replacing broken gates, a new effective CCTV system and pointing, to prevent damp.

A big thank you to everyone who has made the annual maintenance payment so far. We have collected nearly £9,500 and will be able to claim an additional £2,000+ in Gift Aid from HMRC.

With only 3 weeks to go until the end of term, we ask that all families make their contribution to the Maintenance Fund.

Thank you.

District Sports and Sports Day

Last week, over 30 children from Key Stage 2 took part in the annual District Sports event at Lea Valley. It was the first time some of our children had entered the athletics event, especially our Year 3 and 4 children. The events included hurdles, running and relay. Congratulations to some of our children who received individual medals for their excellent performance. Well done to everyone and a big thanks to Mrs Dilieto, Mrs Garnsworthy
and Mrs Janes for organising the event.

SPORTS DAY
We also had two sports days last Thursday. For some parents, it was their first time at a St. Andrew's sports day event. We received many positive comments and emails about how organised both events were and how hard the staff
had worked to ensure the children had access to shade
and plenty of water on a very hot day.

Congratulations to MENDEL House who came first overall.

A big thank you to the Year 6 pupils, who supported our younger children with the activities in the morning, to our parents for supporting the morning and afternoon sports days, to our wonderful PTA for providing a much needed drinks bar and finally, to our staff and children for making it such a successful day.

Year 6 visit Chace Community Art Exhibition

This week, 15 of our Y6 pupils visited the annual GCSE Art Exhibition at Chace Community School. Every year, we attend this wonderful event, to show our pupils the talent and commitment of our neighbouring Y11 students. We also saw some work from ex St. Andrew's pupils, which was really lovely.

Year 6 learn life skills in PSHE lessons

This week, our Year 6 children have been learning basic first aid and spent time practising putting someone into the recovery position. Good teamwork was needed to make sure they did this correctly. The children also learned about choking hazards and how to look for signs that someone may be choking.

Year 4 invent own versions of The Iron Man

The Year 4 children have been studying the wonderful novel 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. When inventing their own version of the iron man, they chose a material, such as Obsidian, Linen and Lava to use in expanded noun phrases, to support their descriptive writing.
