YEAR 6 AT GRITTLETON HOUSE IN WILTSHIRE

{item_alt_tag}

This week, our Year 6 pupils spent 4 days at the beautiful Grittleton House in Wiltshire. Every year, we take our Year 6 pupils here, to experience life away from school and home.

With over 20 activities packed into the week, the children had opportunities to try new things, perfect skills and above all, enjoy time with their peers.

For several years now, we have been taking the children in September and it really is the best time to take our 'new' Year 6 children away. The teachers get to know every child in the year group and the children also build new friendships within the group. All children mix together and this makes for a great week.

A huge thank you to Mrs Statham, Ms Lawal, Ms Ferguson, Mrs Hill and Miss Mann, for giving up their time to take the children. We would also like to thank the Y6 parents for their support leading up to the trip and for the end-of-the-week baskets of gifts. Finally, thank you to our Year 6 pupils, who have made this week so memorable. More photos are available to see on our website: Pupils - Year 6 School Journey. Year 5 parents are encouraged to look at these, as their children will be going next year.

Parent Information

Messages

We have recently moved to a new information system in the school office called Arbor. If you receive a text message from St. Andrew's, please save the number in your contacts as the school messaging number.

Emails

When receiving an email from the school, we politely ask that you do not reply to this email as the reply box is not monitored. Please use the school's main email address admin@st-andrews-enfield.enfield.sch.uk for any queries.  A reminder that any general classroom queries can be discussed with the class teacher at the end of the day.

Invitations to parents

Over the next few weeks, we have organised a number of parent , including Reception phonics, MYME parent workshops and coffee mornings. Please check your emails for flyers, as well as the website calendar for more information.

Coffee Mornings

We have our annual Macmillan Coffee Afternoon coming up on Friday 3rd October at 2:50 p.m. on the playground. All parents are welcome to come support the charity event by bringing a cake or buying a cuppa and a cake (suggested donation of £2). It is also a lovely opportunity to meet some of our senior leaders, members of the PTA (Parent and Teacher Association) and other parents.

We also have our first coffee morning, as part of the PINS project (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools). This coffee morning on Friday 7th November at 9 a.m. welcomes all parents, in particular parents of neurodivergent childen. Talks and advice from professionals such as EASA (Autism advisory service) and Our Voice, who support parents of neurodiverse children.

What else has been happening at school?

Year 4 make papyrus

This week, our Year 4 children have been enjoying making their own papyrus paper, using PVA glue and parcel paper. This messy but fun lesson is part of their history learning about the Ancient Egyptians. Next week, the children will paint on top of the papyrus, to create a piece of Ancient Egyptian art.

Year 2 learn about well-being in PSHE lessons

As part of their unit on Health and Well-being, Y2 have been learning about the benefits of physical activity and how our body feels before, during and after exercise. Also, in their English lessons, the children worked collaboratively to plan a sequel to the  'Goldilocks and the three bears' story.

Reception children investigate and explore

Our wonderful outdoor Reception areas provide endless opportunities for learning, such as mark making, counting and sorting and understanding the world around us. However, it is also the perfect space to boost communication and social skills, knowledge and motivation.
