House Points

Well done to all the children who have been awarded house points this half term - for effort, progress, showing respect, being kind to others and for being a model St. Andrew's pupil.

Congratulations to Hawking House. Hawking pupils may wear yellow to school on Friday 6th June.

VE Day Tea Party in Year 6

This week, our Year 6 children enjoyed a tea party, as part of their World War 2 history unit. Following on from VE Day, the children made their own sandwiches, consisting of cucumber and cream cheese or jam and brought in a range of sponges, scones to fill with jam and cream.

The children decorated a place mat and a flag and after the party, sang war songs, which could be heard across the school.

Thank you to all the parents who brought in a cake to share and to the staff for setting up a wonderful event.

PTA Summer Circus Event

The PTA has been busy organising ticket sales for the Circus event on Sunday 6th July. There are still tickets available, so please check out the posters around the school for more information.

There are plans for drinks, food, a BBQ and other stalls to be organised around the school field. However, the PTA needs more offers of help to run these stalls.

PLEASE OFFER TO HELP THE PTA

On the day, the PTA will need parents to help with tasks such as admission queues at the circus door, to take a turn helping with the BBQ, run the cake stall and help to set up and clear away. At the moment, only a few parents have offered to help. We have over 400 children at St. Andrew's, which means there must be a lot of parents who could offer a couple of hours of their time on this day.

Without the help, these events will begin to reduce. If the events do not go ahead, the school will not receive the much-needed funds to support our major projects, as well as wonderful treats for our children.

We are a community school and we need our community to help, even for a short period of time. Please contact Selin at the PTA as soon as you can. It will really be appreciated.

Artist in residence works with Year 4 pupils

This week, Rachel, a mosaic artist visited St. Andrew's to work with the two Year 4 classes. Organised by now-media, the company contacted Mrs Statham to ask if the school would be interested in helping to complete a wall mosaic for a new community garden in Enfield Town. Mrs Statham met with the Manager of Palace Gardens Shopping Centre, where he discussed a new garden for people who work in Enfield. It is on the site of the old St. Andrew's School, so it seems appropriate that our school should be involved.

Rachel led groups at a time throughout the day to carefully glue different tiles onto the board. The result after 6 hours was the most beautiful butterfly. We look forward to the opening of the garden in a few weeks' time.

Vision and Values Day

With God's love, we live, learn and grow together

This week, our Collective Worship time reflected on our school vision and values and on Thursday, we spent the day linking this learning in a Vision and Values Day. There were some lovely examples of children working together in all year groups. Thank you to Mrs Kirby for organising the day and for reminding us all  how we can celebrate God's love.

Smartphone Free Childhood Workshop for parents of Y4, 5 and 6 children

This is an important meeting for parents with children in Years 4, 5 and 6. We would really recommend parents attend this important workshop on Thursday 5th June at 7pm in the main hall. Nova Eden will be the guest speaker and she will be telling us about how the Smartphone Free movement began and has resulted in both Enfield and Barnet banning smartphones in schools from September.

Reminder emails have been sent out to parents. Please click on the link in the letter to complete the form.

Hi 5 Netball team face their toughest opponents

On Thursday after school, we welcomed a new Netball team to the court,  to take part in a 'friendly' set of matches against our Hi 5 squad - parents and family members!

Mums, dads, older brothers and sisters came along to play a series of matches on the court, cheered on by the teachers and children.

The mums and dads were not to be underestimated - they were extremely competitive! It was so lovely to see family members play alongside their children and it made for a very special end of season for our Year 6 pupils. Thanks to Ms Ferguson and Ms Chick for being umpires and for ensuring everything went smoothly.

Year 2 visit the mosque

Yesterday, our Year 2 classes visited Palmers Green Mosque as part of their learning about the five pillars of Islam. Tariq, the religious adviser, answered the children's questions and was very impressed with their knowledge! Thank you to the Year 2 staff for arranging the visit and to the parents who volunteered to support the children on the trip.

Reception Children enjoy a day out at Oakwood Park

We have been so lucky with the weather this week. Both Reception classes visited Oakwood Park on the bus. With clipboards in hand, they took their learning outdoors. Then, off they went to the playground to spend time with their friends in the sunshine. A huge thank you to the staff and to all the parents who volunteered their time.

Online Safety Workshops

This week, we were delighted to welcome Alan, one of the specialist trainers from ECP Safeguarding to our school. Alan led workshops for parents, pupils and staff throughout the day and the sessions brought up some interesting information: the majority of our children told Alan they access YouTube, so please check the parental controls on your devices and tv.

The older children open discussed using WhatsApp and TikTok sites, which both have minimum age of 13 years. We are also aware of children playing Fortnite, which has a PEGI rating of 12.

We know that in the online world, there are real dangers and risks and we ask that parents take the lead at home with ensuring every child is safe online. At school, our Computing and PSHE curriculum lessons cover safer internet use and we use our newsletters to give parents up to date information as we receive it.
