Arts Week

We have just finished a hugely successful Arts Week at school. All the planning and preparation in the weeks leading up to this has meant that every child has been involved in workshops, live performances, a poetry cafe, art and dance sessions and a whole school talent show. We booked live music workshops for every class, involving African drumming, Boomwhackers and Stomp-style dance sessions!

We also made links with Enfield Grammar, who brought some of their students across to perform to KS2 pupils. Some Year 6 pupils will also be attending the Art exhibition at Chace Community School. Our Year 6 pupils were 'teachers' for some sessions, teaching every class a dance routine for a whole school song. Some very positive feedback from staff about the talent, patience and confidence from our older pupils.

Every year group has been studying a different artist, from Klee to Murakami, learning about the styles of painting and the inspiration for their works. From this, every child has produced a small painting on canvas, which will be on sale to parents week beginning 24th June. More details will follow. We finished the week with our Bright Colours Day and our Talent Show final. The winner will be announced on Monday.

A huge thank you to the PTA for paying for the canvases, to Elysia from Impress Musical Theatre, for her time and effort in teaching Year 6 their dance moves and finally, to all the staff, for their enthusiasm and commitment to making our Arts Week such a success. Photos of the week will be available to view next week.

Year 5 boys complete their Reading Mentor Programme

This week, our eight Year 5 boys completed their final book task with their Year 10 buddies at Enfield Grammar School. This is our fourth year of running the Reading Mentor programme and the partnership with the Grammar School has been so valuable in supporting our boys. Along with developing high-level reading skills, they have become more confident and self-assured communicators. Enrichment opportunities such as these enable our children to experience education outside of their own classroom. Many thanks to Miss Ferguson for arranging the sessions over the year.

Year 2 visit St. Andrew's Church

This week, our Year children visited Fr. Steve at the church, to learn about Baptism. Fr. Steve spoke to the children about why Christians make promises to God and demonstrated how someone is baptised in the church.

Coach Kymani plays in the World Cup Qualifiers

Coach Kymani has not been at school for a few weeks and we know why! Kymani was busy playing football for Montserrat in the World Cup qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Kymani's family are from the Caribbean island of Montserrat and he is  their Goalkeeper. The matches were held in Nicaragua and Panama and the final matches will be against Belize and Guyana in June.

We are super proud of Coach Kymani and wish him and Montserrat all the very best in their next games.

What else has been happening?

Over the past two weeks, there have been so many things happening at school. Our wonderful Year 3 children performed to a packed hall of parents and grandparents for their recorder concert.

Year 6 children took part in the Enfield Junior Citizens programme, where they took part in workshops led by London Ambulance, The Fire Service, The Police and TFL. This is an excellent programme, supporting their transition to secondary school.

Year 5 children went to Tesco to look at which countries their food actually comes from.

Meanwhile, our Year 1 children completed their Phonics Screening and our Year 4 children completed their Times Tables Check.

We have also hosted two Come and Play sessions for new Reception parents and the PTA ran the Bingo Night and Freeze Pop Friday.

Finally, we had visits from two of our governors for Health and Safety and to find out about Arts Week.
