A message from Mrs Statham
Over the past two weeks, I have seen the very best from our school community, for very different reasons.
Firstly, Arts Week – what a fantastic week! I am sure your children have told you all about the packed timetable of events, which included a drama workshop, musical theatre, canvas painting, learning new songs, pottery, knitting, live performances and dance. The week finished with our talent show final. Our special judges (Mrs Bolton who retired in March and Elysia, who runs the Musical Theatre groups) were entertained by ten acts, watched by over 400 people.
Well done to everyone who auditioned and took part. The week was truly joyful, seeing so many children take part in creative and performing arts. This is primary education at its best - setting up opportunities for every child to succeed, regardless of ability.
Secondly, in a stiflingly hot week that few of us will ever forget, schools have had to make many difficult daily decisions around the safety and well-being of hundreds of pupils and staff. Taking the decision to move sports day and implement a flexible pick-up time in the afternoons has, I am pleased to say, only resulted in two emails of complaint. So, I take that as a win and thank literally everyone – grandparents, older siblings, parents, pupils and staff for being so understanding, grateful and patient with the changes. At a time when schools are blamed for a lot of things, I am proud to tell other Heads how respectful and pleasant the St. Andrew's school community has been. A huge thank you to the staff, who continue to give 100% of their effort, time and commitment to the children in their care.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Festival on the Field tomorrow!
