Help needed for the Prayer Garden renovation
We are in the third stage of the Prayer Garden renovation, to transform it into a Quiet Garden. Having a quiet outdoor space is so important for many of our children. If you have a child that might benefit from a quiet seating area, to take a break from a busy playtime, to think or just to enjoy a moment of calm, please come along and help.
Saturday 17th May. 9.30am - 12pm. Come through the car park entrance onto the field.
Please inform the office if you can attend. Bring a spade and/or a wheelbarrow.

VE Day at St. Andrew's School
Last week, on 8th May, the whole school took part in a special VE Day assembly, to commemorate and celebrate this important day - 80 years since Victory in Europe. The children listened as Mrs Statham explained the history leading up to this day, the people involved and how families in this country were affected by events during the Second World War.
It was a glorious sight to see the hall full of red, white and blue, with some children bringing in flags to wave, too. At the end, they gave a rousing performance of two war-time favourite songs; 'It's a long way to Tipperary' and 'Pack up your trouble in your old kit bag'. The learning continued into the classrooms, including spitfires being made and flown in the playground and flags for waving. Thanks to all the staff for helping to make this a special day.

Outdoor Learning Day - 8th May
Last week, on the same day as VE Day, we also took part in Outdoor Learning Day. Over the past few weeks, our teachers have taken part in training from the 'Learning through Landscapes' organisation. Diane, the trainer, met with Ms Sanders and the School Council to talk about how we can best use our school grounds to facilitate learning across the curriculum areas, as well as support pupils' physical and mental well-being.
Following the training, we also qualified for a grant, giving the school access to resources to enhance the pupils' outdoor learning experiences. Every class took the opportunity on this day to take learning outside. Lessons included poetry, art, dance and science. Many thanks to Ms Sanders for her efforts in securing a grant for the school.

St. Andrew's hero honoured in Unsung Heroes Award ceremony
Last week, James, one of our Year 5 pupils, was honoured at the National Scouts Unsung Heroes Ceremony.
When James was 9, his much younger brother suffered a serious medical incident at home. While mum attended to his brother, using knowledge he had learnt from his First Aid training with the Cubs, James calmly went out of the house and called on a trusted neighbour to help. He also waited for the paramedics to arrive and escorted them to the house.
James also provided reassurance and kindness to his middle brother during what must have been a very frightening and stressful experience for the whole family. James was nominated for this award by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields. We are super proud of James and of his prompt actions, which led to his brother receiving treatment quickly. Being part of the Scout Association gives our pupils life skills, builds resilience and gives all young people the tools to approach situations with courage and confidence. Well done, James!

Pupils selected to attend the new David Attenborough Film
Last week, 3 of our pupils, Jacob, James and Oscar were lucky enough to attend the widely- anticipated film premiere of 'Ocean' at the Royal Festival Hall in London. What an amazing opportunity for the boys. Representing the Cubs and St. Andrew's School, they were a credit to both.

Good Luck to Coach Kymani!
Next week, Coach Kymani will be away for a few weeks playing football. Kymani plays for Monserrat, a small island in the Caribbean. As a goalkeeper, Kymani will be playing qualifier games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will be playing against Guyana and Belize.
Kymani will be back by mid June to tell us all how he got on. While he is away, Coach Ahmad will be taking over the PE lessons next week and after half term. Ahmad is known to After School Club children and we look forward to seeing him next week. We wish Kymani all the very best at the Qualifiers.

Year 6 SATS Breakfast and trip to Broomfield Park
Well done to our Year 6 pupils who have now completed their National tests this week. The children have worked really hard, particularly in the last few months, to improve their knowledge and understanding and we are so proud of their efforts.
A post SATs trip to Broomfield Park ended a very busy week. Many thanks to the Year 6 teachers for their patient, nurturing approach and dedication, to ensure all children have remained calm and ready for the week. Also, to all the staff who supported groups and individual pupils during the tests; it was a team effort.

A visit to Buckingham Palace
This week, Miss Mann and Mrs Statham took a rare moment of time away from school to attend the King's Tea Party at Buckingham Palace. The Tea Party was for hosted to those in education and for their service to education.
Miss Mann was nominated by the Lord Lieutenant of Enfield and chose Mrs Statham to attend with her. Together, they have over 60 years of experience in teaching and education! They arrived alongside 3000 other teachers, Headteachers and lecturers to spend the afternoon in the King's Garden. What a wonderful experience.
