Children's Mental Health Week

Last week, the whole school took part in Children's Mental Health Week. The week began with Mrs Cahalan leading the assembly with the message 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.' The teachers taught lessons on how to develop a growth mindset - understanding that we can develop skills and talents through effort, learning from mistakes and being persistent.

There was time for mindful thinking each day - a calm pause from the busy moments in school to concentrate on our breathing. Life is so busy in school and at home, so this week helped us all to take a moment to talk, draw, listen and relax. Our class buddies came together to work on activities such as mindful colouring, listening to music and playing games. We even had Well-Being Wednesday for the staff - some yummy treats and gifts for us to choose.

The teachers will be continuing with some of the techniques and ideas used from the week. A big thank you to Mrs Cahalan and Miss Jones for organising a very important week.

Reception children visit the Little City

This week our Reception classes had a real treat, a visit from Little City! The small hall was transformed into a High Street with lots of different play pods, including a police station, a surgery, a launderette and a garage. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their imagination and speaking and listening skills.

Year 5 visit the British Museum

Last week, our Year 5 children visited the British Museum to look at the Ancient Benin bronzes. These artefacts were made in the 1400s in the ancient Kingdom of Benin. The children have been learning about the history of the Benin Dynasty, which covered parts of West Africa (Modern Nigeria). Many thanks to the staff and parents for supporting the children on the trip.

Year 3 visit the Natural History Museum

On their visit to the Natural History Museum, our Year 3 children extended their learning about rocks and fossils. They were surprised to see real diamonds and other hidden treasures. The word of the day was WOW! Many thanks to the staff and parents who supported on the trip.

Year 4 children make book sleeves in Design Technology and use green screen techniques to make a news presentation.

What an exciting time to be in Year 4 at the moment! The teachers have been hard at work preparing some very interesting engaging lessons for Computing and DT. They have been exploring a variety of fastenings for a fabric book sleeve. Using a running stitch to assemble the book sleeve, the children then chose Velcro or a button as a fastening. They look amazing. Meanwhile, a green screen has been set up outside the Year 4 classrooms for the children to use as a backdrop to their presentations. They will be using iMovie as they take on the role of newsreaders. So many skills and techniques being learnt this term!

Year 5 Space Exhibition

Yesterday, the Year 5 children presented their space models to the school and to parents. What an impressive range of models! Even though the theme was the same, we really saw some original and creative designs, including the solar system sewn onto a duvet cover, light-up models and hanging mobiles. Many of the children also made fact sheets and info posters to go alongside the models. A huge thank you to parents for their help and support during this project. It really was outstanding.
