Regular attendance really does matter

Regular attendance at school ensures that children get the best possible start in life. Good attendance supports learning, the development of social skills and friendships, as well as building good habits that are essential for adult life.

At St. Andrew's, we monitor attendance very carefully. If your child is absent, you will receive a phone call, email or text from the office staff, regarding your child's absence. We may also ask for evidence of any health appointments (GP, referrals, prescriptions) if your child has been off for a number of days. This is standard practice at our school.

A reminder that Persistent Absence is when your child's attendance is below 90%. Please help your child to be at school every day. Thank you.

PTA Events for the Spring Term

The PTA has been very busy planning and organising small and not so small events for this term. We begin next week with the Spare Change Challenge in all classrooms. Then it is our Quiz Night for adults. Please sign up for this exciting event. We look forward to raising much-needed money for the school.

What's been happening at school?

In Reception classes this week, our younger children have been busy taking part in the RSPB Birdwatch challenge. They had great fun searching for birds around our wonderful school grounds. The children have also been making bird feeders, as well as drawing and writing about birds.

In Year 2, the children have been designing and building bridges, as part of the D&T unit. They used junk materials, tape and art straws for the task. Some children quickly realised that their designs didn't quite go to plan! They needed determination and resilience to keep making changes and many showed great imagination. What a great afternoon!

Year 6 create rhythms and beats!

During this half term, our Year 6 children have been using a music tech program called 'Quick Beats' to create their own music. Using their own log ins on the lap tops, they have been learning how to create contemporary music using rhythms, backing tracks, beats and loops. This is a great introduction to music technology and we look forward to hearing their music compositions.

Worship Committee attend St. Paul's Cathedral service

This week, Miss Jones and Ms Lawal took the Year 5 Worship Committee to a service at St. Paul's Cathedral. The yearly service is held for all church schools in the London Boroughs and it is an opportunity for some of our children to be part of a bigger service in one of the most spectacular venues in the country. The children listened to the service and also joined in the singing to Mamma Mia, courtesy of a steel pan band!  Many thanks to Miss Jones for organising the visit.

Year 1

Our Year 1 children have been learning about Shabbat, as part of their RE lessons about Judaism. They tasted Challah bread and drank grape juice.

Meanwhile, during choosing time,  some of our children decided to 'teach' phonics to their friends. Mrs Meekin was thrilled at their accuracy and attention to detail - they really have been listening!

Year 3 and 4 Art Club

There has been some wonderful work going on in the Y3 and 4 art club each week. This week, the theme was pointillism, painting in the style of artist Georges Seurat. Well done to all the children and big thank you to Ms Mann and Ms Lawal for leading the Art Club.

Reception Classes visit Enfield Town Library

This week, RB and RW walked to the local library, where they took part in a small workshop with the librarian. We love books at St. Andrew's and very much appreciate having a local library for our school community to visit. Many thanks to the parents and staff for supporting our children on the visit.

Children's Mental Health Week 3rd - 7th February

Next week, we will be taking part in the National Children's Mental Health Week. All classes will be involved in lessons which have been planned around the theme 'Know yourself, grow yourself.'

Our Collective Worship times and PSHE lessons will be used to build on discussions and support our children in building a growth mindset. There will be class buddy activities, where older and younger children will have the chance to play fun games together. A big thank you  to our Pastoral Team for organising the week.
