A message from Mrs Statham

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas at school, now that the Christmas Fair has taken place! On Friday, the PTA spent the whole day transforming the school into a Christmas wonderland with Christmas trees, an enormous snow dome, festive tables and games and of course, Santa's Grotto in my room!  Everyone worked so hard to have the fair ready for 3pm.

We were treated to live singing and dance performances by children and adults in the hall and the raffle stall was supported by our school governors. The highlight for many was a visit to see Santa in the grotto. A huge thank you to Santa and to the Year 6 elves for helping to make so many children and parents happy.

I would like to thank our children, staff, parents, governors and wider school community for supporting our fair. Every penny raised goes back into purchasing resources for the school.  We will let our school community know how much was raised in due course - thank you all so much.

In other news, we look forward to the nativity performances in the coming weeks for YR, Y1 and Y2, as well as the Junior Carol Service led by Year 3 in the final week. The junior choir will be singing at Chase Farm hospital and Azalea Court in Bush Hill Park and Year 6 will be watching Oliver Twist at Chace Community.

Parliament Week 2024

Last week, the children in Years 5 and 6 took part in Parliament Week - a national event involving thousands of pupils every year. Every year, our children get involved in activities such as debating, making their voices heard on Speaker's Corner, making speeches and campaigns, as well as learning about parliament, british values and laws.

The children held a referendum and voted on whether the school should consider implementing a food waste policy. After counting the votes, the result was overwhelmingly YES. This has now been passed on to our School Council, who will begin looking into this in due course.

We finished the week with a visit from Ms Feryal Clark, MP for Enfield North. Ms Clark visited each class, listening to the children talk about their campaigns - the state of the roads in Enfield and why Breakfast Club places should be free to everyone who needs them. She was also interviewed by a group of children about a range of issues affecting Enfield.

We are so proud of all the children for their engagement in all the events. We look forward to running this next year!

Girls' Football Tournament

This week, our girls' football team took part in the Enfield Schools Football Tournament, with around 20 teams taken part. The girls played with commitment and focus in four matches, which resulted in a win, a draw and two losses. A big thank you to Mr Cook for organising the event.

Spelling Bee update!

For the past few weeks, we have reported on our Spelling Bee Tournament with schools from the Enfield Town Schools Partnership. This week, the semi-finals were held for Y1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6. All teams did really well and Our Year 5 and 6 team has made it through to the Grand Final next week. We wish them lots of luck! Congratulations to all of our pupils. You have really been amazing contestants.

Year 2 Great Fire of London Workshop

Last week, our Year 2 children took part in an immersive workshop to further their understanding of the Great Fire of London. They went back in time to 1666 to discover what life was like, how the fire started and how it spread so fast.

They acted out scenes to try and imagine how it must have felt for all who were there. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. A huge thank you to our Year 2 parents for their contributions towards the workshops.

WRAP UP LONDON

Thank you all so much for donating your coats over the past three weeks. We collected over 100 children's and adults coats and took them to the Fire Station in Barnet. What an amazing community we have at St. Andrew's.
