Attendance Award

{item_alt_tag}

At the end of the first week of the new school year, the following classes had 100% attendance:

RW, 1B, 2B and 4B

Sadly, for this week, only 2 classes had 100%

1W and 4W

Classes with 99% attendance

RB, RW, 2B, 5B, 6W

It is very important for all children to be present at school every day. Let's hope for 100% attendance for all 14 classes in the coming weeks.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW SCHOOL YEAR

It is my pleasure to begin the first newsletter of the school year with lots of wonderful news to share.

Firstly, a very warm welcome to our Reception children and their families. We met you all at the 'come and play' sessions in July, however, it has been really lovely to see your children in their school uniform being fully part of our school. We would also like to welcome children and families new to the school in other year groups. We hope your children settle in quickly and we look forward to you being a part of our school family.

Secondly, I would like to say another huge thank you to the PTA, whose amazing total last year of over £22,000, has enabled us to purchase a new table tennis table in KS2, a badminton set for Y4 and Y5 clubs and our fantastic wall art installations along the corridor. Our PTA has also helped families in need of financial help. Please do support our PTA in whatever way you can - every child benefits from the fundraising and help.

Finally, a warm welcome to our new members of staff. Ms Jane Law, our Welfare Assistant, Ms Sevgi Erol, our RW class teacher and Mr Robbie Haynes, our lunchtime playleader. We hope they enjoy their time with us.

Mrs Statham  - Head of School

History timeline and map installations

With the funds raised from the PTA, we have had brand new permanent displays  installed along our corridor upstairs and near the main hall. The history timeline features all the key events and periods in history which the children study throughout their time at St. Andrew's, including local history such as Forty Hall and the school itself. The four School Houses which are named after the scientists Rosalind Franklin, Gregor Mendel, Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking are also evident on the timeline.

Outside the hall, we have a huge world map spanning the entire wall, as well as a map of the United Kingdom. These maps are already proving to be exciting and interesting, as pupils and staff stop and study places and names. We know these two walls will help to bring history and geography learning to life throughout the  school, for many years to come.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Next Friday, we will be having a coffee and cake morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care. If you would like to donate a cake or buy some cakes for the coffee morning, please send them in on Thursday or Friday at drop off.

Please come along for a coffee, a slice of cake and a chat from 8.45 to 9.45 a.m. If you can't stop, we can do take-away coffee and cake too! There will be a suggested donation of £2 for a drink and a cake, but please feel free to donate whatever you can. It would be lovely to see parents from all year groups come along. We are aiming for outside but it may be in the small hall, if the weather is poor. We look forward to seeing you on Friday.

What's been happening around the school?

Year 3 children have started their science unit on Rocks, Soils and Fossils by looking at sweets! This is to help their understanding about properties and appearance of different rock types. Looks like a great lesson!

In Year 5, the children start the new term with All About Me PSHE lessons. These lessons give our older children an opportunity to consider their strengths, their passions and their hopes for the coming year.

Our Year 1 children have been making full use of their garden area to find out about their bodies in science lessons. They had great fun with the bones, stethoscopes and internal organs!

Our new Reception children have already settled into their new classroom areas. They have been moulding and shaping play-dough into important family members and using peg boards to explore pattern. They have also been enjoying their school dinners together in the hall.

Year 6 House and Vice Captains

Congratulations to the Year 6 pupils who were voted as House and Vice Captains by KS2 pupils this week. We hope they will demonstrate the leadership skills needed in these important roles.

Reminders for parents

Scooters and bikes - children MUST walk with their scooter or bike once they get inside the school gates. This is to make sure that everyone is able to walk along the pathway safely. If your child is in Breakfast Club or After School Club, they can park their scooter or bike in front of the small hall. Everyone else - please walk with your scooter to the large bike shed on the KS2 playground.

Uniform - there are still a few children who are missing items of uniform such as school shoes, a tie and indoor PE kit. We are a uniform-wearing school, so please ensure your child wears the correct clothes every day. Please refer to our uniform policy on the website if you ar unsure.

Communication - please make sure you are receiving and reading our text messages and emails. Check your junk folder, too! Please inform the office if any of your details have changed.

Hometime - the gates open at 3.25 p.m. ready for parents to collect at 3.3 0p.m. Please be on time and inform the office in advance if you are going to be late.
